The Beach Routine

Wow, is it hot....  It seems like you wake up at 8am and its already 30 degrees!  Shan and I sat out on the deck thinking we’d go exploring before the kids got up but it’s already cooking.  Shan and I did head out to find some bread for breakfast and once again the bikes sure came in handy.  We've quickly fallen into the beach routine of getting up late, breakfast, do a few things around the cabin and wander down to the beach in the early afternoon.  Ohhh, it’s a tough life!
Beach to the west toward Olympos.
Floated around for a bit and
We snorkelled out past the sail boat.
Alyssa and I decided to hit the east side of the beach to see how the snorkelling was.  So back on the bikes for the pedal down the beach and we stashed them in the bushes and went quasi snorkelling with swim goggles as that all that fits in the packs.  Checked out some pretty neat stuff, definitely not overwhelmed by underwater scenery but it just makes you look a little harder and you find some pretty cool stuff.  Lots of rock scallops, small leafy sea fans, schools of fish, the odd bit of coral and a few sea worms with their feathery wing to filter feed.  I got Alyssa to touch the sea worm and it quickly shot back into its tube.  She wasn't expecting it so she kind of jumped underwater, it was pretty funny.

Back to pick up Jenna and Shan and off for ice cream.  I can tell I'm going to get my .... handed to me when I get home trying to keep up with the boys on the bikes after this sedentary lifestyle.  We hit the cabin with a sit on the deck and then it was time for dinner.  Spaghetti with chicken, another go to that was the perfect home cooked meal.

Night swimming.
After dinner we were told that the bio luminescence is absolutely incredible right now.  Alyssa and I decided we’d go swimming while Shan and Jenna came for the ride.   As it started to get dark, we jumped in with goggles and man was it cool.   You could just wave your hands in the water and see fluorescent green lights appear.  We played around in the water for a bit and then I was getting cold so I bailed much to Alyssa’s (aka “the fish”) chagrin.  As we hung out on the beach watching the stars multiply with the darkness, this old Turkish guy came down and kept using the word for turtle over and over again getting us to come with him.  We grabbed our stuff, getting quite excited as we thought there might be a turtle to see as this is when they come up to lay their eggs.  Turns out he was taking us up to the beach chairs so we wouldn't scare the turtles if any came up on the beach.  A bit of a let-down but you never know, we might get to see one while we’re here.
This is how they protect the turtle eggs on the beach.  43 eggs, laid June 27th.

Home for the night a a bit of TV as we've found a channel that is English with Turkish subtitles and actually has good shows on.  We got lost in that for a bit and then it was time to crash.  Who knows what tomorrow will bring!?!

  1. I have to say thank you for posting these incredible photos and wonderful stories! Muffin and I are relaxing to our favourite Peter Gabriel music, seeing these places I could never imagine, enjoying the escape, if only for a while. Well done!
