A Day Shared with Friends

Today we got to sleep in since we had been out late with our new friends Cailin and Ali. Italians really stay up late. The 7 year old kids are still up running around the town square at midnight, unlike at home where mom and dad are always telling me to go to bed by that time if they aren’t sleeping yet. In the morning I texted Cailin to make plans for today. We later met up with them at the beach and hung out there for a while. Cailin, Ali, sis and I swam to a dock and sat there for a while, we met this little Italian boy that was 11 and spoke no English, it was pretty funny trying to communicate with him though. Sis kept adding “ano” to the end of every word and the rest of us were using our hands and acting out things to try and get it across. Later me and Cailin went and tanned on the beach but Alyssa and Ali kept swimming. At 3 we went to get some food... which is another thing Italians do, they eat really late, like dinners at 8:30-9pm or later where I’m used to eating at 5pm. Later, Cailin and I went back to the dock to hang out.  Dad decided it would be funny to scare us by swimming under the dock and grabbing our ankles.  I screamed so loud I swear some of the people on the beach looked at me.

After going home and showering we headed up to Cailin’s apartment in the walled city just above Finale.  The parents hung out and had drinks and appies while we went back to their apartment to check things out.  After a while, Cailin’s dad came up to tell us there were acrobats in the village square that were really talented.  The girls was able to bend her body in ways that normally, people would die.  I couldn’t even watch.
This wasn't even the scary part.
We headed for dinner in the village at a little pizzeria.  Apparently in Italy you don’t have pepperoni on pizzas.
The outside of the walled city.
When we asked for cheese and pepperoni we ended up getting cheese and peppers....Eww.  After dinner we were only allowed to walk around because the girls had to leave early in the morning and mom and dad didn’t want to stay for too much longer.  However, we went back to the apartment with no key but lucky for us, Cailin is really good at picking locks just with her earings.  When the lock was about to open, the light turned off at the top of the really steep stairwell where we were.  It was really scary and Ali screamed.  We slowly made our way back down the stairwell and walked around until our parents caught us.  Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye but hopefully we’ll see them again. After that fun night with our new friends, we walked home and went to bed.
