No sleeping in today. We got up early to walk to the Eiffel
Tower before all the people and tour buses got there. Yesterday when we wanted
to climb the Eiffel Tower there were way to many people waiting in line and
there were people spitting from the top which was absolutely disgusting. That
is why they dragged me out of bed to walk 30 minutes just to get there, then we
waited in line for about 20 minutes.
There was this group there of about 400
kids from Nebraska on a band trip to 7 different countries in Europe. When we
got our tickets there was a security check where they check your bags and you
walk through a metal detector. Then we started walking up the stairs, 688
stairs up and 688 stairs down. The view from the top was amazing. You can see
everything, the old buildings, the newer looking ones, all the cranes, the
manicured gardens and trees. They have a restaurant at the first level of the
tower and furniture too. All of the
furniture is made from pallets, even the swing seats.
When we got back down to the bottom we sat in a little patch
of grass and ate lunch, brie and crackers again... mmm. There were military people
walking around the Eiffel Tower square with full machine guns, it was kinda
scary that they need that high security but I guess it makes sense. Anyways we
are sitting there enjoying our lunch, looking at the Eiffel tower and all of a
sudden the sprinklers came on. Yea that was pretty great, getting soaked made
my day. There were quite a few people sitting on benches or walking past that
started laughing at us but I do have to admit, it was pretty funny.
After finishing our wet lunch we started walking again and
went to the Louvre.
In all it has 4.8 km of halls, it also gets 9.3 million
visitors per year. That would explain why we had to wait in line for an hour in
the hot sun, not fun. I guess flip flops was a bad choice of shoes for today
because my feet hurt so bad, same with my back... and my knee and ankle, it was
awesome. So after we waited for the last hour to get in we found out it was
just security, once you got in you had to wait in line again to get tickets.
But that was okay because we sent dad to do that while we went and sat down
somewhere. I was so tired I just about fell asleep. Walking around again didn’t
feel great but some of the pieces were pretty cool but it’s all just old broken
things like the other museums we’ve been to. Mom really liked an old furniture
exhibit and same with the paintings in the Mona Lisa room. We saw her except
not close, the crowd around her acted like she was some major celebrity at a
concert. People were pushing, squishing through others trying to get a good
picture.
After all those people and hours of walking we needed to go
home... well temporary home. Our hostel is okay, it kinda reminds me of an old
haunted mental hospital though, it’s a bit creepy. We took a bus back and of
course, more people. I was squished in the door space with nowhere to go. When
we got back dad made dinner and we went to bed. It was one long day.
